Two Countries, Similar ideas
July 3rd, 2007 | by admin |After reading the article ‘Designing in context by Ravi Teja Sharma I realised that landscape architecture in China and India are both heading in similar directions. Although they are both traditionally based upon horticulture and landscaping both countries are starting to embrace contemporary landscape architecture whilst incorporating the latest landscape technology of water efficient planting and water treatment and harvesting within the site.
Other similarities are that China and India although two separate countries with two different cultures they have a common trait that their cultures can also be grouped in to sub-cultures or groups based upon on location and history of its peoples. An example of this would be that in China the cultures of Cantonese in comparison with Xinjiang people of the north west are very different in traditions, festivals, food, architecture, and of course landscape architecture. These differences are not only due to the large difference in climate but also the influence of history and other cultures on each area.
In years to come in both India and China will hopefully be at world’s best practice but also may be at the forefront of landscape architecture design as we have such a rich history and culture to draw upon for ideas for each different area and culture within China and India.
